Practise the decisions before the incident.
Give leadership and technical teams the opportunity to rehearse a cyber crisis together. Cybergen designs realistic exercises that test coordination, challenge assumptions and turn lessons into practical improvements.
Illustrative exercise injects
Prepare your people for difficult decisions
An incident response plan only becomes useful when people understand how to apply it under pressure. A ransomware demand, a supplier outage or a suspected data breach can require decisions before the facts are complete.
Our exercises create a controlled setting for those decisions. Participants work through an evolving scenario, consider new information and practise how to coordinate response, business continuity and communication. The focus is on readiness and improvement, rather than catching people out.

Everyone who would be in the room for real
Attendance depends on the scenario. Exercises can include security and IT teams, executive leadership, operations, communications, HR, privacy and legal representatives, so handovers are tested as well as individual roles.
- Executive sessions focused on decisions and risk
- Technical sessions focused on containment and recovery
- Combined sessions that test the handover between them
Rehearse the incidents most likely to hurt you
Every exercise is tailored to your organisation, threats and plans. Select a scenario.
Ransomware and extortion
Explore suspected compromise, operational disruption and information theft. Rehearse containment, recovery priorities and coordination with the relevant external advisers.
What it tests
- Containment decisions
- Recovery priorities
- Extortion and negotiation questions
How Cybergen helps
We draw on real ransomware tactics from our threat intelligence to build realistic injects.
Data breach response
Work through uncertain exposure, affected information and investigation priorities. Test how security, privacy, legal and business teams establish facts and make communication decisions.
What it tests
- Establishing what data was affected
- Privacy and legal decisions
- Notification considerations
How Cybergen helps
We bring security and privacy perspectives together to rehearse uncertain breach decisions.
Outages and supplier disruption
Examine a loss of access to a critical system or provider. Challenge continuity assumptions, alternative processes and the information required to restore services safely.
What it tests
- Loss of a critical system or provider
- Workarounds and manual processes
- Safe restoration
How Cybergen helps
We test continuity assumptions against your business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Executive crisis decisions
Practise escalation, decision authority and risk acceptance when time is limited. Help leaders balance operational priorities, customer needs and incomplete evidence.
What it tests
- Escalation and decision authority
- Risk acceptance under time pressure
- Balancing operational and customer needs
How Cybergen helps
We give leaders a safe space to practise difficult decisions without the pressure of a live incident.
Technical and business coordination
Test handovers between responders, IT, service owners and leadership. Identify where terminology, ownership or missing information delays effective action.
What it tests
- Handovers between teams
- Shared terminology and ownership
- Information needed for decisions
How Cybergen helps
We observe where coordination slows down and recommend practical fixes.
Communications and stakeholder management
Rehearse internal updates and the approval of external messages. Consider customers, staff, insurers and relevant authorities within the agreed scenario and advice arrangements.
What it tests
- Internal updates
- Approving external statements
- Customers, staff, insurers and authorities
How Cybergen helps
We rehearse messaging and approvals so communications are ready when needed.
From discussion to full simulation
Start where you are. Complexity grows as your readiness improves.
Facilitated walkthrough of a scenario with key decision makers.
Time-pressured injects for leadership, focused on decisions and communications.
Hands-on response by technical teams, under an explicitly agreed scope.
Leadership and technical teams working the same scenario together.
Discussion-based exercises do not touch live systems.
Lessons you can act on
- An exercise plan with objectives, participants and scenario boundaries.
- Facilitated scenario sessions with timed developments and decision points.
- An after-action report covering strengths, gaps and observations.
- A prioritised improvement plan with owners and suggested follow-up exercises.
Design, prepare, rehearse, improve
Does a tabletop affect live systems?
A discussion-based tabletop does not require changes to production systems. Any technical simulation or live testing is a separate, explicitly agreed scope.
Who should attend?
Attendance depends on the scenario. It can include security and IT teams, executive leadership, operations, communications, HR, privacy and legal representatives.
Can we exercise without a mature response plan?
Yes. An exercise can expose the decisions and responsibilities a plan needs to address. Objectives and scenario complexity should reflect your current readiness.
How often should we run exercises?
Many organisations run at least one exercise a year, and more often after significant changes, new plans or real incidents. Varying the scenario keeps exercises realistic.
